5.33 lakh e-POS devices installed
A total of 5.33 lakh e-POS devices have been fitted in the fair price shops of the country where biometric verification through Aadhaar is also being done for distribution of grains. This prevents the ration from falling into the wrong hands. As per the ministry, the system is currently around 98 percent Aadhaar linked for the distribution of grains and this has been effective in curtailing undeserving beneficiaries and black marketing.
Verification of 64 percent of PDS beneficiaries completed
In the course of the ongoing e-KYC campaign by the government, the verification of 64% of PDS beneficiaries has already been done and the verification of the rest is in progress at ration shops. The Food Ministry, in a recent announcement, disclosed that Food Corporation of India (FCI) has incorporated a real-time vehicle monitoring system with the railways for the purpose of transportation of food grains. This is ensuring the supply of food grains at the right time and place. Empathizing with the need of the people the government has allowed the mobility of ration cards under the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme.
Rations can be accessed from anywhere in the country
The ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme has enabled the beneficiaries to access ration to every nook and corner of the country. This system has set a level of food security that even encourages digitization and proper identification of food components. This system gets all processes right from procurement to distribution computerized so as to get rid of ghost cards and false entries. This made it possible to ration only those who truly required it hence enhancing food security.
